Kilkenny’s Independence Story – Heritage Week Event

The decade of commemoration recalls some of the most significant events in the history of modern Ireland and the modern world.  Join in a walking tour through Kilkenny with a guide from the Kilkenny Military Heritage Project to hear about Kilkenny’s Independence Story.  This is the third year of this walking tour which aims to give people an understanding of the events as they happened in County Kilkenny during the period 1913-1923. This year there will be a special emphasis placed on weapons procurement and the split which occurred in 1914.  To find out more about this event visit the Heritage Week website at www.hertiageweek.ie.

Heritage Week Event: Exploring Our Military Heritage

As we enter a decade of commemoration in Irish and European history – we remember the men and women who served in armed forces at home and abroad.  The Stephen Barracks at Ballybought Street Kilkenny is proud to open its Military Heritage Museum to the public during Heritage Week.   The exhibit is comprised of military heritage spanning across three centuries. The items on display help visitors to have a better understanding of our history and military heritage relating to the South East. To view details of this event go to www.heritageweek.ie
